Seven children supported by CHAS, joined by six of their siblings, were treated to a magical sightseeing round trip along Scotland’s west coast, made even more special by the surprise arrival of beloved characters from fairy tales and comic books.
Thanks to Loganair’s partnership with Glasgow-based party and event specialists Wish Upon a Star Kingdom, this year’s CHAS families were joined by Snow White, Rapunzel, Spider-Man and Batman, who brought smiles and laughter while helping the children and their families to make unforgettable memories.
Among the excited flyers was Jameson Kinloch, 5, from Lanarkshire, who is fascinated by all things aviation and dreams of becoming a pilot when he grows up. Jameson lives with short bowel syndrome (SBS) and has been supported by CHAS through Robin House Children’s Hospice in Balloch for the past two years. With his birthday just a week away, the CHAS flight was the perfect early celebration, made even more memorable by the chance to visit the flight deck and meet the captain.
Jameson’s mum, Sam Allison, said:
Jameson loves planes and flying - his favourite parts are take-off and landing as he says it feels he’s on a rollercoaster. He has wanted to be a pilot ever since they had a career day at his school, so he was very excited to be able to meet the pilot and the co-pilot, who both went out of their way to make him feel very special.
Thank you so much to Loganair and CHAS for organising this amazing experience and helping us make such wonderful memories together as a family – we all absolutely loved it.
When asked what his favourite thing about the experience was, Jameson said:
Everything – I loved it!
Before take-off, families enjoyed a VIP experience in the Campsie Lounge at Glasgow Airport, complete with character meet-and-greets, storytelling sessions and singalongs. Then it was time to board the flight for the aerial adventure that many of the children had only dreamed of.
The special day is part of Loganair’s ongoing support for CHAS, a partnership now in its fourth year. In 2024, the airline introduced a voluntary £2 donation option to online bookings to raise additional funds for the charity.
Loganair also supports the charity's outreach service CHAS at Home, which has made 1,951 visits in the past year, by providing vital flights for nurses supporting families in remote and island communities.
Since June 2024, Loganair customers have raised over £27,000 for the charity via its website.
Luke Lovegrove, Chief Commercial Officer at Loganair, said:
Every year we’re honoured to create this unforgettable experience for CHAS families. It’s more than just a flight – it’s about joy, imagination, and shared memories. Working with CHAS and our incredible partners allows us to make a real difference, and we’re proud to play our part.
This marked the fourth annual CHAS flight experience, following similar events at Edinburgh and Aberdeen airports, and continues to grow each year in scale and impact thanks to the dedication of staff and volunteers.
Laura Swift, Senior Charge Nurse for CHAS at Home, who was involved in planning the flight, said:
Seeing the children’s faces light up with joy as they boarded the plane was just magical. For many of the families, it was their very first time flying, which made the experience even more special, and for other families, it was perhaps the only time they would ever experience the joy of flying, as they have difficulty arranging holidays that involve air travel due to their child’s complexities.
From the VIP escort through security to meeting their favourite characters and looking out the windows mid-flight, it was a truly unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
The CHAS flight is made possible thanks to the ongoing efforts of its official charity partner, Loganair and its network of support from local Glasgow businesses, including Glasgow Airport, Wish Upon a Star Kingdom, Menzies Aviation and OCS.
Laura continued:
These are the moments that matter - moments where families can simply enjoy being together and create happy memories that they’ll treasure forever. Experiences like this mean so much to the families we support.
Matthew Wilson, Head of Aerodrome Operations at Glasgow Airport, said:
We're delighted to host the latest CHAS flight at Glasgow Airport. Partnering with Loganair and CHAS allows us to bring this unique and valued opportunity to children and their families.
Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces as they meet their favourite characters and take to the skies is truly heartwarming for us all. We are extremely proud to support this wonderful initiative.
