Orkney Inter-Isles

We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before your scheduled departure.

Check-in closes:

• 20 minutes before departure at Kirkwall Airport.
• 15 minutes before departure, when travelling from one of the North Isles.

We recommend checking in with us in person at the Inter-Isles desk.

This allows our team to check your baggage and confirm whether any small personal item can be carried in the cabin.

If you check in online, you must still present any baggage at the Inter-Isles desk before boarding.

Your total luggage allowance is 15 kg across all pieces of baggage.

Cabin space on our Islander aircraft is extremely limited. Only very small handbags and slim laptop bags may be carried in the cabin. All other items must be checked in as hold baggage at the Inter-Isles desk.

Baggage exceeding your 15 kg allowance will incur an excess baggage charge and will only be carried if the aircraft has sufficient space and weight capacity.

Additional luggage cannot be prebooked for Inter-Isles flights.

If we cannot carry an item on your scheduled flight, it may need to travel on a later service, subject to availability.

The most suitable fare depends on where your journey starts, whether you are returning on the same day and how long you plan to stay.

• Economy
  • For one-way travel on any eligible Inter-Isles route.
• Economy Return
  • For return travel from Kirkwall on the same day.
• Excursion
  • For eligible return journeys from Kirkwall that include an overnight stay. Availability depends on your route.
• Island Saver
  • For eligible return journeys that begin and end on one of the North Isles.

Some specialist fares cannot be booked online.

• Senior Citizen fares
  • Customers aged 65 or over can receive 50% off the relevant Economy fare when travelling between Kirkwall and Eday, Stronsay, Sanday or Westray, or between the North Isles.
  • Senior Citizen fares are not available between Kirkwall and North Ronaldsay or between Kirkwall and Papa Westray because these routes already receive additional fare support.
• Sightseer fares
  • The Sightseer fare provides a round trip from Kirkwall on the same scheduled service, without an island stopover. It can only be booked on the day of travel and is subject to seat availability.
• Open Return fares
  • Open Return fares are valid for six months from the date of the outbound journey.
• Concessionary fares
  • Residents participating in the North Ronaldsay or Papa Westray concessionary fare schemes should contact the Inter-Isles team to book.

Children aged 2–15 travel for 50% of the relevant adult fare, except when travelling on a Sightseer fare.

Infants travel free until their second birthday, provided they do not occupy a separate seat.

If you need to cancel your journey, we can provide a full refund when you contact us at least 24 hours before your scheduled flight.

Changes can be made up to 45 minutes before your scheduled departure.

The Inter-Isles service provides an essential transport connection for North Isles communities and has very limited seating.

If you cannot travel, please let us know as soon as possible so we can make your seat available to another passenger.

If you require assistance at the airport or when boarding the aircraft, please tell us as early as possible.

Because the Islander is a small aircraft with limited cabin and hold space, we recommend discussing your requirements with our team before booking.
