Travel to East Midlands

Your Gateway to Central England

For fast access to the historic, scenic, dynamic heart of central England, there’s no finer gateway than a flight to East Midlands Airport. From this well-equipped jumping-off point you are within easy reach of the cities of Derby, Leicester and Nottingham and the university town of Loughborough.

Throughout this captivating area you’ll find a wealth of opportunities for great shopping, and for visiting museums, galleries, restaurants, pubs, cafes, sports venues, parks and more.

Highlights are too many to completely list here …

... but let’s try; walking in the footsteps of the legendary Robin Hood in the real Sherwood Forest near Nottingham; launching your imagination at the National Space Centre in Leicester or paying homage to controversial King Richard III at his fascinating tomb in Leicester Cathedral; thrilling to the roar of motorsport at Derby’s Donington Park Race Circuit or sipping a quiet pint in the city that offers “one of the country’s most diverse choices of real ales” (says beer champion CAMRA); discovering Loughborough’s Charnwood Museum and Art Gallery.

Families especially just love flying to East Midlands because of its proximity to exciting Alton Towers theme park.

So many wonderful places to explore, one perfectly placed airport.

King Richard III Visitor Centre

The award-winning King Richard III Visitor Centre is in Leicester city centre, opposite Leicester Cathedral. It’s been created around the location where King Richard III's remains were buried for more than 500 years. Using storytelling, design and 21st century technology, visitors can discover the incredible story of the King's life and death, and one of the greatest archaeological detective stories ever told.

The Cattle Market

Held in the heart of Melton Mowbray at The Cattle Market, a wonderfully traditional market town set in the rolling Leicestershire landscape, which is proud to be known as the Rural Capital of Food and Drink, the Melton Mowbray Food Festival brings together a huge selection of edible delights from some of the country’s finest producers, many from the East Midlands region.
