Prospect Industrial Action
Following the announcement of strike action by Prospect – a union at Highlands and Islands Airports (HIAL) representing the airport fire service and security staff, we have now received confirmation from HIAL of the impact expected on the dates and opening hours of its airports.
08 and 09 March
There will be no service to and from Stornoway, affecting Loganair flights to Benbecula, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness.
10 March
There will be no Loganair service to and from Benbecula, Islay, and Kirkwall (external flights). Based on the limited facilities at Kirkwall, we will be operating the Orkney inter-isles services to Orkney’s north isles.
13 March
There will be no Loganair service to and from Inverness, Islay and Dundee.
17 March
There will be no Loganair service to and from Dundee and Inverness.

If your flight is amongst those cancelled due to this industrial action by HIAL staff, you will receive an e-mail from Loganair within the next 24 hours setting out the options available to you. This will go to the e-mail address provided when your booking was made – please check your spam and junk folders.
These options are:
- re-book without charge on an alternative flight of your choosing, and you can also choose an alternative route if seats are not available on your original route – e.g. if Glasgow to Kirkwall flights are full, you can rebook from Edinburgh to Kirkwall;
- request a refund for your booking if you decide not to travel.
As we expect call volumes into our Customer Help Centre to be extremely high, we’d ask customers, wherever possible, to use the online rebooking or refund request options provided in the e-mail you’ll receive.
If your flight is not listed below and you receive no e-mail from us, your flight is unaffected, and there is no need to contact us or take any action.
At this time, we have seat availability on most routes for customers whose journeys are disrupted by industrial action to be able to re-plan their travel. We are also adding an extra flight and operating larger aircraft for customers between Kirkwall and Aberdeen to help customers re-plan their journeys:
- An extra evening Kirkwall-Aberdeen service on Thursday 09 March
- Larger aircraft on the Aberdeen-Kirkwall-Aberdeen services on Saturday 11 March
We’re sorry that these cancellations and changes have become necessary, and we apologise to Loganair customers for this unwelcome news. At the same time, we must ask for your understanding that this situation is entirely beyond our control and influence. We’ll do everything we practicably can to assist customers in re-planning their journeys to account for this situation.
