The Machrie Golf Day

The Course

Golf has been played at The Machrie since 1891. Designed by Willie Campbell and more recently modernised by course architect DJ Russell, The Machrie combines the best of a traditional, historic links course from a previous age with modern Links. The need for thought, imagination and creative shot-making has not changed throughout the years and carries as much of a premium over sheer power now as it did when the course was created.

There is a reason why the Scots invented golf on links land, and the links turf on which the course sits is among the finest in Scotland. The dramatic setting of Laggan Bay and the dunes has few equals, and with the ever-changing nature of the challenge offered by this acclaimed layout, it’s time you played the Machrie!

Itinerary

Take our morning flight for the short 45-minute journey from Glasgow to Islay. Once on board, sit back, relax and enjoy the spectacular view of sparkling, crystal clear, turquoise waters below. On arrival, you will be whisked by private transfer to the five-star Machrie Hotel and Links to be greeted with a hot morning roll and tea/coffee to set you up for the day ahead. Then the serious stuff begins on your world-class round of golf at this remarkable course, after possibly playing The Machrie’s Wee Course – a unique six-hole par three miniature challenge.

Once finished, you can enjoy a delightful two-course lunch at the Machrie Hotel, serving some of the best local produce. Of course, an end to a trip to Islay would only be complete with a complimentary dram of Islay single malt to go with it. Your private transfer will then take you back to the airport for your evening flight to Glasgow.
