Flybe celebrates first birthday flying from Dundee by operating Scotland's most punctual air service

NEW statistics released by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) show that Flybe‟s Dundee to Birmingham service, operated by franchise partner Loganair, is Scotland‟s most punctual air link.
As Flybe celebrates its first anniversary tomorrow (Thursday, May 21) of providing air services from Dundee, the CAA data for the year ending December 31, 2008, shows that 93.7% of flights between Dundee and Birmingham were on time. This compares to the UK average of just 77%.
The route also has the shortest delay of any air service throughout the UK, at three minutes, compared to the UK average of 12 minutes.
Loganair‟s services from Dundee to Birmingham and Belfast City have proved popular over the past 12 months, with nearly 18,000 passengers using the airline‟s twice-daily flights to Birmingham and more than 8,000 travelling to the capital of Northern Ireland.
David Harrison, Loganair‟s chief executive, said the results were „encouraging‟ considering the wider troubles that have affected the UK economy in the last year.
He said: “We‟re delighted by the response to our Dundee services. It‟s particularly pleasing to see that the flights have continued to prosper despite the economic downturn and we‟re committed to supporting Dundee‟s economy by maintaining convenient air services to two key UK destinations.”
Loganair‟s flight times to Birmingham have recently been revised in response to customer feedback, offering an improved schedule for business travellers.
Flights now depart Dundee at 7am and 4.30pm each weekday with return flights from Birmingham departing at 9.05am and 6.30pm. There is also a Sunday evening flight in each direction while flights to Belfast City operate daily except Wednesday and Saturday.
Mr Harrison added: “Our first-class performance from Dundee has really shown that our team recognise that punctuality is second only to safety in terms of importance to our customers. I‟d like to congratulate our locally-based pilots, cabin crew and engineers, as well as the ground staff at Dundee, for their impressive achievement in making this Scotland‟s most punctual air link.”
Fares on both routes start from £34.99 including taxes, and flights are bookable until March 2010 at www.flybe.com. Flybe also offers weekly services from Dundee to Jersey throughout the summer season.
