City of Discovery
Dundee, Scotland’s fourth largest city, has a proud sea faring and industrial heritage, with Captain Scott’s famous Antarctic expedition ship RRS Discover berthed on the banks of the Tay at the award winning Discovery Point, HM Frigate Unicorn berthed at Victoria dock, and the city’s textile history retold at Verdant Works, an industrial museum. But it’s to the 21st century the city looks to with a burgeoning cultural quarter, a cosmopolitan city centre with magnificent glass fronted shopping centres, and taking on scientific dimensions, Dundee is a city waiting to be discovered by the discerning visitor.
The traditions and culture of the city sit easily alongside the unspoilt surrounding area of Angus, where rugged coastlines brace themselves against the North Sea, gentle rolling foothills run into the eastern edge of the Cairngorms National Park, and where the small town of Carnoustie celebrates a world renowned reputation of being one of the great golfing destinations. For it’s on the East coast of Scotland that the game of golf was born, and being in Carnoustie country, the lure of the Old Course at nearby St Andrews beckons all golfing heroes also.
Angus and Dundee is one of Scotland’s most diverse and interesting regions, with an abundance of historical, cultural and sporting attractions to discover.
