It's showtime!

The clocks have turned, and the weather has surely followed! Luckily for us all, theatre never goes out of fashion, so if you’re looking for some indoor entertainment this Winter, theatres are the way to go. With over 1,100 active theatres in the UK, let’s face it, the choice is endless for theatregoers here. This is exactly why we thought we’d help you out by narrowing it down to some of our favourites.

Mayflower Theatre, Southampton

With over 2,270 seats in the auditorium, Mayflower Theatre is the biggest one on the south coast. The theatre brings together a wide variety of shows with a mixture of touring productions; opera, dance, drama, ballet, comedy and musicals, many of which are directly from the West End! And if this diverse range of spectacular shows was not enough, might we remind you that.. *dramatic pause*.. pantomimes are also back this year! And yes, the Mayflower Theatre has got you covered, as they will be showing Cinderella from the 10th of December to the 2nd of January. The play is family-friendly but might have some adult humour here and there, so it might be a good one to visit with friends instead?

Edinburgh Playhouse, Edinburgh

Scottish Theatre and the excitement it brings along with it is back! With over 3,000 seats spread over three levels, Edinburgh Playhouse is the UK’s largest operating theatre with regards to seated audience capacity. Originally used as a cinema, the beautiful theatre now hosts live music, musical theatre and comedy. With famous musicals such as Chicago, family favourites such as Beauty and the Beast and modern-day twists such as Bat out of Hell and School of Rock, there is something for every theatre lover! And to get you into the Christmas spirit, they will be showing White Christmas the Musical from the 14th of December until the 2nd of January!

Theatre Royal, Newcastle

Theatre Royal is one of only nine Grade 1 Listed theatres in England and is one of the finest theatre buildings in all of the UK! With almost 185 years of experience with entertaining audiences, we are confident that Theatre Royal will exceed all your theatrical expectations. From the 23rd of November to the 9th of January, the theatre will be showing the famous classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. For a spectacular night filled with laughter and theatrical magic, this pantomime is not one to miss out on. From panto innuendo to scary moments, it will surely be a performance you will always remember!

Lyric Theatre, Belfast

The award-winning Lyric Theatre is Northern Ireland’s only full-time production theatre, making it a must-visit cultural attraction. Since its beginning in 1968, the Lyric Theatre has provided opportunities for internationally acclaimed poets, actors and playwrights. And for the audience, a visit to this creative hub leaves them feeling empowered, inspired, engaged and educated. For this year's exciting pantomime, between the 26th of November and the 31st of December, Pinocchio: The Greatest Wonder of the Age will be showing. So if you’re looking for a family-friendly activity this festive season, Pinocchio is the one for you! The theatre will also be doing socially-distanced performances on certain dates, so if you prefer to be in a more spacious environment, make sure to have a look at their website and book on those days!
