Loganair and Flybe Celebrate Record Passenger Numbers
7th August 2009
Single month figures for July are airlines’ best ever
Flybe franchise carrier Loganair today (Friday, August 7) announced that it has set a new record for the highest number of passengers using its Western Isles services in a single month.
Scotland’s airline carried 10,826 passengers to and from Stornoway in July 2009, narrowly beating the previous record of 10,759 set in May last year, with all three of its local routes, to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness, recording growth.
Specifically, results on the Glasgow service highlighted the convenient range of connections available through Flybe, with destinations including Birmingham, Southampton and Manchester proving particularly popular.
Jonathan Hinkles, Loganair’s commercial director, said: "These are fantastic results, particularly when viewed against the present background of an economic downturn in the UK.
"It suggests that the domestic tourism market has been especially strong, as Loganair forecast earlier this year, and we’re delighted to see that the work we’ve undertaken to make more low fares available and create better connections to and from Stornoway has been well received."
