Loganair and Flybe Celebrate Bumper Passenger Figures
7th August 2009
Flybe franchise carrier Loganair has reported bumper first quarter passenger numbers following the launch of its Cardiff to Aberdeen service earlier this year.
New figures show that Scotland’s airline carried almost 1,000 passengers in July, reflecting a third consistent month of growth since the route was introduced at the end of April.
The news, which comes on the back of Flybe being named the largest carrier at Cardiff Airport in terms of the volume of flights departing and arriving, underlines the excellent reception that the route has received.
As well as offering a convenient connection for people who work in Scotland’s oil and gas industry and commute from Wales, the service has also met the growing demands of business travellers, students, tourists and local residents keen to explore Aberdeen and the surrounding area, which boasts some of the best golf courses in north east Scotland.
Celebrating the success of the new route, Jonathan Hinkles, Loganair’s commercial director, said: "This is a superb result during our third full month of operation, especially given that July is traditionally a quieter time for business travel.
"In addition to the strong business links between the two regions, our customer research has shown that the route is proving popular with a wider variety of travellers from those working offshore to tourists and those visiting friends and relatives.
"It’s also interesting to see that onward connections from Aberdeen, to the likes of Kirkwall in Orkney and Sumburgh in the Shetland Islands, are proving popular.
"We always knew there was a need for improved air services between Aberdeen and Cardiff and despite the wider troubles facing the UK economy at present, it’s clear that customers are still keen to take advantage of Flybe’s great routes at very competitive fares."
Loganair operates one return flight a day, six days per week, Sunday to Friday, between Cardiff and Aberdeen, with fares from £59.99 one way, including all taxes and fees, bookable at
The 34-seat Saab 340 aircraft departs Cardiff at 3.15pm and arrives in Aberdeen at 5pm. Return flights depart Aberdeen at 1pm and arrive in Cardiff at 2.45pm.
