EXTRA HELP FOR NHS PATIENTS IN ABERDEEN

A brand new service is being launched on Monday 23rd March, to make travelling through Aberdeen Airport easier for NHS patients. BAA Aberdeen, along with Loganair, have finished work on a new reception area in the Dyce terminal for passengers needing special assistance.

The dedicated 'PRM desk' (or 'Passengers of Reduced Mobility') will be permanently manned to help bridge the gap between checking in and boarding. It will provide users and their companions with a central meeting point to co-ordinate the movement of those being assisted through the terminal.

The area will be well sign-posted, will include low level screens displaying flight information, and also sees the purchase of a second ambulift vehicle to help passengers onto the aircraft. It is not just reserved for NHS patients however, but is also designed to help many other passengers, such as wheelchair users and those with hearing or sight problems.

Fraser Bain, BAA Aberdeen’s Terminal Services Manager said "This is a major investment, designed to make it easier for people to travel through our terminal." "Many NHS patients from the Northern Isles need to come to Aberdeen regularly for vital treatment, and we are committed to making sure their journey is smooth and quick."

David Harrison, Chief Executive, Loganair, said they were "delighted to have worked with BAA on developing this new facility, which will assist in meeting the needs of our passengers at Aberdeen Airport." "It is a positive step that will enhance the passenger experience." Aberdeen South MP Anne Begg is a regular passenger through Aberdeen Airport and is also a wheelchair user. She welcomed this as a "really good initiative".

"When someone who has a disability comes into a new airport, it can be difficult to know what to do and where to go. For that reason this dedicated desk must be a good thing, which will make life easier and less stressful".
