Increase in Luggage Allowance

8th October 2008

Loganair has increased its luggage allowance for a trial period, from 15kgs per person to 20kgs.

In direct response to customer feedback, Loganair will be increasing passengers' free baggage allowance on all flights from 26th Oct.

For a trial period only Loganair plans to increase the hold baggage allowance for one item from 15 kilograms to 20 kilograms, while the company assesses the impact of these changes on its business.

David Harrison, Acting CEO for Loganair, said: "This is a change from what we've been saying up until now. However in view of the feedback we've been getting from customers, we will allow passengers to take one item of baggage up to 20 Kilograms, even if they are just on a journey within Scotland and have no connecting flights. We will operate this policy for a limited period, while we monitor its impact. We need to understand how many people will make use of this additional baggage allowance and what impact it will have on the loads on our flights. Depending on the outcome, we will assess where we go in the future."

As Loganair operates smaller aircraft than are seen in other parts of the UK, there are some limits to what can be carried on board. Loganair is committed to finding a balance between a completely full load of passengers and letting everyone bring the baggage that they want.

The new increased allowance will apply on all services, whether passengers are flying on a Loganair-only journey or are connecting onwards with Flybe. The only exception would be where passengers have an onward connection with British Airways, which has a baggage allowance of 23 kilograms. In these circumstances, Loganair will respect the higher limit for those passengers that are affected.

Excess baggage charges of £10 will apply if the one piece of hold luggage is more than 20 kgs or if passengers carry more than one item of baggage.
